DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING

Department of Civil Engineering at Shree DharmasthalaManjunatheshwara Institute of Technology, Ujire, is the latest addition to the college, commencing BE undergraduate programme in 2012 with an intake of 60. The department has 11 faculty members and 240 students in its roll.

Program Outcomes (POs)

Students will be able to,

  • Analyze, Solve complex Civil Engineering problems on the basis of knowledge of Engineering skills   mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Geosciences.

1. Material Testing Laboratory

  • Enable students to apply knowledge of mathematics and engineering in calculating the mechanical properties of structural materials.
  • Ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams in the area of materials testing.
  • Ability to use the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering.
  • Students will be able to understanding of professional and ethical responsibility in the areas of material testing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively the mechanical properties of materials.

2. Basic Surveying Practice

  • Application of the basic principles of engineering surveying and measurements
  • Students will follow effectively field procedures required for a  professional surveyor
  • Use techniques, skills and conventional surveying Instruments necessary for engineering practice.

3. Fluid Mechanics Laboratory

  • To calibrate co-efficient of discharge for V notch, Rectangular notch, Trapezoidal notch, Broad crested weir, Venturemeter, Venturiflume and Vertical Orifice.
  • Calibration of collecting tank and pressure gauge.
  • Verification of Bernoulli’s equation.
  • Determination of Darcy’s friction factor for a straight pipe.
  • Determination of vane coefficient for a flat vane and semicircular vanes.
  • Performance characteristics of a single stage centrifugal pump, Pleton wheel and a Kaplan turbine.

 

4.Engineering Geology Laboratory

  • Applied Engineering Geology laboratory provides systematic knowledge of construction materials.
  • That means knowledge about mineralogical composition, durability and other properties of construction materials.
  • Before starting major project at a place, a detailed geological reports which is accompanied by geological maps and sections, is prepared.
  • Such a report helps in planning and constructing the project. Applied Engineering Geology laboratory comprises such studies.

5. Computer Aided Design Laboratory

  • This course will introduce the basics of AutoCAD, Excel and Staad pro software
  • Students should be able to draw the plan, elevation and sections of any civil engineering drawings using AutoCAD software
  • Students should be able to solve the problems of civil engineering using Microsoft Excel worksheet
  • Students will be able to analyze the structures by staad pro software

6. Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory

  • Learn the common terms used in field of Geotechnical engineering.
  • Laboratory tests to classify soil and their properties.
  • Study interaction between water and soil and its effect on strength of soil.
  • Learn the challenges posed in geotechnical analysis and design.

7. Concrete and Highway Materials Laboratory

  • .Students get their hands on experience in testing various materials used in construction of civil engineering structures.
  • Laboratory helps students in research work.

8. Environmental Engineering Laboratory

  • The branch of Environmental Engineering is concerned with protecting the Environment or People from the effect of adverse Environmental effects.
  • The students will be able to study necessity of providing clean water also disposing of solid wastes and sewage.
  • Graduates will have the ability to establish themselves as practicing professionals in Environmental engineering field / civil engineering field.
  • Exhibit a high degree of awareness of ethical and professional obligations through involvement in professional societies.

Biography
Dr. Krishnaprasad P.A. has completed Ph.D in Civil Engineering in the year 2015. Presently he is working as Assistant Professor in the department of Civil Engineering. Dr. Krishnaprasad P.A. is Heading the department of Civil Engineering from 4th March 2016 to till the date. He was working as Junior Research Fellow in a major research project sponsored by Ministry of Earth Sciences New Delhi     from 2007 to 2009. From 2009 to 2011 he was working as Senior Research Fellow in the same project.  He was working as Research associate for two years in an ISRO respond project between the period July, 2011 and May 2013 at SDMCET Dharwad. He was teaching remote sensing and Photogrametry, Engineering Geology and Lab during the research period.   He has joined S.D.M. Institute of Technology Ujire on 1st of August 2013. He has total 9.5 years of teaching and research experience. He has published 15 publications in national and International journals and conferences. He is co-investigator   for a major research project sponsored by Ministry of Mines. Dr. V.S. Hegde of S.D.M. CET Dharwad is the Principal Investigator of the project. The total grant of the project is 29.44 lakh. The grant is received by SDMCET Dharwad. He is the present chairman of cultural committee of the Institute and one of the active members of sports committee. He was awarded best bowler of the tournament in the state level Staff cricket tournament held at RV College of Engineering, our College went on runners up in the tournament.   He has played good number of KSCA first division matches in Hubli.

He has completed his B.E in Bapuji Institute Engineering and Technology Davangere in 2009. From October 2009 admitted for higher Education and successfully completed his M.Tech degree in Structural Engineering from Siddaganga Institute of Technology Tumkur under VTU. From 2011, joined structural design office and worked on various structural building, shear wall design and worked on retrofitting the damaged apartment building using new technology till June 2012. From July 2012, joined Shridevi Institute of Technology, Tumkur and worked as a lecturer in department of civil engineering till June 2013. From July 2013, joined SDM Institute of Technology Ujire and continued his teaching till date.He registered for His research work (Ph.D) in 2015 under the guidance of Dr. I. R. Vinay M.R. has completed M.Tech in COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN OF STRUCTURES AND SUB STRUCTURES in 2012 at UBDTCE Davanagere Carried out major project on effectiveness and performance of shear wall location In OMRF and SMRF. Presently working as assistant professor in civil engineering department at SDMIT, Ujire from 21stjuly 2013 till the date. He worked as assistant professor in SBIT-Tiptur from 2012 to 2013. He extended his duty as a warden of SDMIT boy’s hostel from 2015. He is the one of editor of college annual magazine and he is the staff coordinator of civil engineering ICONS. He is the workshop coordinator of two weeks ISTE STTP on “Introduction to structural engineering” in January 2016 and he is the coordinator for workshop on Total station for civil engineering students in 2016 He is the active member in Cultural committee, Hostel committee, magazine committee and Discipline committee.

Mr. VinayaShyam D is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, SDMIT Ujire since 14th July 2014 to till date. He has completed his B.E in VCET Puttur in 2009. After completing his degree, he worked as Junior Engineer civil in telecom company TVSICS, Bangalore for a period of 1 year. Then he worked in Gujarat as Assistant Civil Engineer in company OCCPL, Mumbai (client ONGC) for a period of 1 year. He did his M.Tech in Construction Technology in GEC Hassan (VTU RC) and got 2nd Rank in VTU in 2013. After completing his master degree he joined to company Refex Energy Limited, Mumbai (client Aditya Birla) as Civil Engineer Construction in Hyderabad for a period of 1 year.  He registered to Ph.D in 2015 under the guidance of Dr. M Nagesh (Professor and Head, Department of Civil Engineering, GEC Ramanagara) in VTU Belagavi. He is the placement coordinator, MOU coordinator and IEDC coordinator.

Biography

He completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Civil in year 2013. He involved himself in internship program on CONSTRUCTIONS USING V-PANEL from HASTHA CONSTRUCTIONS UDUPI. He carried out “Experimental studies on the production and purification of bio gas from vegetable waste” as a part of BE project work which was sponsored by KSCST, IIS Bangalore with Rs.11,000.  He pursued the master’s degree in Computer Aided Design of Structures in 2015. He did his M.tech project on ‘Impact studies on belly landing of light transport aircraft’ under Centre for Civil Aircraft Design and Development, National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore.

Presently working as assistant professor in department of civil engineering  SDMIT, Ujire.  Carried out a project on corrosion rate of RCC structural elements in the presence of sodium chloride. Published a international paper on study of mechanical properties in SCC by blending cement partially with fly ash and metakaolin. Area of interest is corrosion studies in RCC.

He has completed his B.E in Vivekananda college of engineering and Technology Puttur in 2011.He had worked as Technical officer for the period of 1 Year in ICICI Bank Bangalore. Presently working as assistant professor in civil engineering department at SDMIT, Ujire from 20thjuly 2015 till the date. Biography

Vishwanatha Bhat has completed M.Tech in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems in 2016from National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal. His research interests are mainly in the field of Urban sprawl, Modeling urban changes, Hydrological processes in the Western Ghats. He has obtained Summer Research Fellowships from Indian Academy of Sciences successively for two times, which was carried out at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB), and Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru (IISc) respectively.
He has presented four research papers in national and international conferences. Presently working as an assistant professor in civil engineering department at SDMIT, Ujire from February2017. His co-curricular interest is totrek- in and around the lush, pristine Western Ghats. Apart from this, he has also recited self-composed poems and stories at All India Radio- Mangaluru.
